Infant Tylenol Recall...

Here is a link to the Tylenol website that lists the lot numbers and flavors affected by the recent recall. I checked through the five bottles we have in the house and none of ours are listed.

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics : FAQ: Companies and the Compact for Safe Cosmetics

Here is just an excerpt from the Q & A section from the site I posted earlier....please do not be offended if you see a company listed here that you are a rep for (I used to rep for a couple of them myself). This is not intended to make anyone look bad or to judge someone for being a customer...just trying to bring more awareness to potential health concerns in our personal care products. These companies can reformulate their products to be safe!

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics : FAQ: Companies and the Compact for Safe Cosmetics: "Q: I don’t see Arbonne, Avon, Mary Kay, Melaleuca or other similar companies listed on your website, even though they claim to be “safe,” “natural” or donate money to breast cancer research. What’s the deal?

A: Arbonne, Avon, Mary Kay and Melaleuca are aware of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics but have refused to sign it. If they are truly supporting women’s health and making “safe” products, it shouldn’t be too hard for them to sign the Compact. Hundreds of companies have signed the Compact, a commitment to manufacture personal care products free of known and suspected toxic chemicals.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics does not endorse or hand-pick “safe” companies to refer customers to. The growing list of safer companies on our Web site is comprised solely of companies that have signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics. If you don’t see a company on the list, we encourage you to send a letter letting them know about the Compact and urging them to sign it.

For a sample letter to get you started, please check out the Materials section of the Web site."

Cosmetics, Skin Care Products --- Natural or Not?

One of my biggest pet peeves is companies that promote their products as "natural" or "safe" when they still contain ingredients that can be harmful. The website I've listed below is one where you can check out certain skin care/cosmetic products and companies to find out where they stand. It's not a complete list but it's a start. There are other helpful sites out there as well.

Move Over Vitamin C...Here Comes Vitamin D!

Okay, just learned something new a few minutes ago...according to several websites - http://www.mercola.com and http://www.webmd.com just to name a couple, Vitamin D may be more beneficial to fighting off viruses like colds and the flu (even Swine Flu) than Vitamin C. If you think about it, it does make sense. We are getting less Vitamin D from sunshine during the times of year colds and flus are most prevalent. I still need to look into this more, but I've read enough to think I should check into supplementing. Not sure about vitamins in pill form, though I sometimes do take a multi. They seem to be controversial as to whether or not your body uses them effectively. Anyway, something to think about...

Hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday!

My Intro...

I am a 34 year old married mom of 4 who lives near Chicago, IL but grew up near St. Louis, MO. I have had an interest in medical topics since the day I became a mother nearly 14 years ago. Then even more so when I noticed symptoms of a health condition in myself that would take years to be completely discovered by doctors.

It is my goal with this blog to help others feel like they are not alone, to bring about more awareness, and encourage open minded research. We each have a responsibility to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done...I confess to slacking in this department way too much! But we must begin somewhere. So, soon I will be posting information about individual health topics and hope that some of you will benefit.

Thanks for taking the time to read!
